Why did you write Viking Vik?

My Mother is Norwegian. That makes me half Viking. My Father was red-haired and blue eyed and born in Essex, part of the Dane Law where the Vikings settled in England. The name Rayner is Viking, so that makes me Viking through and through!

When I was younger I wanted to be a Viking when I grew up, but there aren't many jobs for Vikings these days!

When I visited my Aunt Nilla in Norway, we went out to the Hutte (a holiday cabin) that she and her husband, Uncle Per, had built near a place called Snekkevik. When I saw the place, with a tiny bay and beach, I realised this was perfect place for Vikings. Viks are little bays where you can harbour a Longship. That's what Viking means - the people of the Viks.
