This video follows up the video about rough sketches in the video that you can see below. In this video I’m drawing the final artwork for Dragon Red on to Seawhite Heavy Cartridge paper and then painting it with Winsor and Newton Neutral Tint watercolour (link below) to create a greyscale image for my black and white book, Dragon Red, which is the final part of my Dragon Trilogy.
While I was in Wigtown for the book festival I made a mural for the school playground. I began with a day in School drawing children who posed for me. Then I showed the children how to draw too. I use these sketches to make the mural, which I painted onto great big, 8 x 4 foot boards. This weekend the boards went up and , to my huge relief, it all fits together.
Here are some of the children’s drawings – I love how they interpret what I do!
During my time at the Wigtown Book Festival last week, I spent time at the school, drawing some children, who posed for me. I then showed the rest of the children how to draw those drawings.
Then I used those drawings to design a mural to replace one in the playground that has become a bit worn with age. I managed to finish in time but the big, 8′ x 4′ boards were not put up in time before I had to leave for home.
The video shows the process and and how I resurrected my ancient sign writing skills. I actually surprised myself with my ability to still handle a long haired sign writing brush!
