Flamazine - who or what is that all about?

How many bands never make it? We will never know.

There are many reasons why bands split up before they achieve the success they deserve, Flamazine was just one, but Flamazine was not just any old band. Flamazine had a small but passionate group of fans who hoped for great things from the band.

Lucky for us, Flamazine spent a long time writing and recording their music while persuing a record deal, so their legacy lives on.

They only ever performed live once, in Dudley, West Midlands. It was their swan song as the band effectively split up the next day to go their separate ways.

Why the name Flamazine?

When the band got together and began writing and recording in Guitarist Laurie's flat in Welwyn Garden City, Laurie was employed by the pharmaceutical company, Smith and Nephew. His job was selling pharmaceutical products to the medical trade.

Flamazine was one of his big sellers and as such his flat had flamazine protional material all olver the place - pens, pads, the usual sort of thing.

Somehow Flamazine seemed a natural name to adopt for the band. Flamazine is an ointment for serious burns. Flamazine the band was an ointment to soothe the burning soul - or that seemed a likely idea. naming bands is not easy.

It was thought a possibility that the band might get some sponsorship - more likely a writ!

Flamazine were known to their fans as "The Flams".
