School & Library Visits
“…it was a brilliant day which the children and adults loved!”
For the Autumn Term, why not keep up the momentum of the Creepy House stories in the Summer Reading Challenge that many of your children have been involved with in libraries over the summer holidays? Let me come and tell some (not very!) scary stories, with my Little Horrors and Scaredy Cats Series, and get your children reading, writing and drawing scary stuff for Halloween and the Christmas ghost story season! There’s still room for booking this term. Email me with your preferred dates and I’ll see how I’m fixed.

Why invite me?
You know my books and enjoy them.
You want inspiration to read, write and draw more.
You want your pupils to be really excited after my visit and your library borrowings to go up.
Your pupils have read or studied one or more of my books.
You want to give pupils an enjoyable, mind-broadening experience
I’ve a huge amount of experience with many different types of audience – children, students even business groups. You will find me fun, confident, adaptable, enthusiastic and very hard-working.
What I do
Storytelling - I choose a suitable story for the group I’m with, explain where the ideas came from, show how to draw the characters. Then I perform the story and we all have a huge load of fun. I love to teach the children how to draw the characters. This often gives the children “ownership” of the character and makes them want to write their own stories about the character afterwards.
Story Planning - I’m dyslexic and have worked out my own methods of planning and writing stories. We can work with one of my characters, or I’ll take an idea you are vworking on and show you how I spin ideas out of nowhere and then get them organised into an beginning and a middle and, most importantly – an end.
Drawing - I believe a lot of the difficulty some children have in progressing with their writing is because don’t draw as much as they did. For most children, drawing needs to be taught and they need to understand it is not about "Art" or style, but connecting with ideas and the world around them. Drawing is the very best way of affirming information.
Crazy Projects - I usually wish I’d never said yes, but by the end I’m glad I did! – I’m open to ideas for crazy projects you might have in mind. I’m also very happy to open school libraries and be involved in other events too.
Booking me – I’m a busy person, but I do like to say yes!
I’ll be very happy to talk to you.
Please feel free to get in touch by email
or phone 01594 837386 to discuss your needs and ideas.
TRAVEL – I live in the Forest of Dean – that’s on the Welsh side of the big loop in the River Severn.
I’m happy to travel anywhere, home or abroad.
The red circle on the map indictaes visits that would only take a day, otherwise I will need overnight accommodation.
