Smartboards

I had great fun on Friday with a group of year ones in Bishop Aukland. I’d got The Smartboard software loaded on my laptop and tried it out for the first time while attached to a projector and Smartboard.

I had with me an animated version of Noah’s ABC that I’ve done a lot of work on. The children could all see the “book” and could participate by coming up to the screen and pressing the animals heads to get the sounds and effects.

Their comfort with the technology was quite apparent. They expected more from the story than I’d put in. Things that I can now see are obvious, I’d probably thought I could cut corners and get away with!

I was impressed with the potential for interaction. One girl came up to press the elephants to see what they would do. They trumpeted and walked off screen, not what she’d expected, so she physically jumped when the elephants reacted to her finger touching the screen. Watch this space… I think there is something really exciting going on here.
