Speaking in a Scottish Accent

April 19, 20126 Comments

How to speak in a Scottish Accent – just some thoughts on the Scottish accent as I’m editing my book, Craig M’nure, Kindle. I’m reading it out aloud in Craig’s weird Scottish accent. He isn’t actually Scottish, he lives in the middle of the Atlantic on his own island, andis mostly influenced by sattelite TV and YouTube (he has the fastest internet connection in the world. His accent is a bit like my worst immpression of a scottish accent, which is a blend of Glasgow, Morningside and Orkney. That’s probably because Craig is my alter ego!

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! Hahahahahahahahaha! Hahahahahahahahaha!!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!! This has to be the best laugh I have had in a long time!!!! I have lived here (as an American in Scotland) for 27 years and have never attempted such a thing! The Scots (in almost every part of Scotland) may never forgive you, but I sure will! Hahahahaha! Brilliant!

    Och nawwww.

    Oh, ochhhh.

I can see why youse’ve got your letterbox on your door all sealed up, eh no? Is that tae stop all the piles o’ letters fae all your outraged Caledonian ex-friends frae piling onto yer doormat? What kind of accent was yon?

God. Hysterically funny? You are a BADNESS. I’m sure we can get you into the Witness Protection Plan before we smuggle you back up North of the Border, but you may have to do something about your heuchter Teuchter consonants. You are a crazy as a fox, sir. I salute you. But the Orcadians may not agree. Are you sure it wasn’t the Shetlanders you meant? They’re really close to Norway.

Anyway – lang may yer lum reek and here’s tae us, wha’s like us, gie few and they’re a’ deid. Practice nightly, and by 2015 you should be getting somewhere. xxxxx

Thanks Debbie! There’s very little I can say in reply and my WPP minder says I should keep a low profile anyway. Guess I’ll move on to the Welsh next.
