Watermore Primary School, S. Gloucestershire
Watermore is unusually keen on reading and it shows. The children were wonderfully bright and inquisitive and self-reliant. I think that is the one thing that real reading gives to a child, a deep understanding of things and how to research and find out for themselves. I know every school does reading, but it’s not enough. A passion for books and reading is evident the moment you walk into a school and begin talking to the children. (jumps off soap box!)
I have to share with you the work of Jake, Matthew, Henry and Jack who have designed the most wonderful Top trumps and cartoon series called the World of Steve, Steve being an eraser with what looks like a helmet, but is in fact part of the box the eraser came in. It’s a great idea, which the boys have tried to market to Panini sticker amongst others. These lads will go far!
I was asked to draw a WWII Spitfire. I don’t think I did too Badly. I’ll do a proper one on Drawing School soon.

Hi Jake. I have a feeling you may well become an author when you are older! Keep that dream alive in your head. You may change your mind one day, but you will have learned so much useful stuff along the way!

Hi Megan. Great story – I guess you want to be a famous Gymnast one day! Part of being a great gymnast is believing that you are and will be and writing stories like yours is great for getting the idea of being the best into your head. My best tip is to edit. You can always make a story better. Have a break then re read what you have written and see if you are repeating yourself or if some bits are getting in the way of the pace of the story. Sometimes you can cut out big chunks of explanation that aren’t really necessary. You have to write it all out for a first draft to “get it out of your head” but then you have to think abut the reader and make it as clear as possible. There you are That’s my tip – oh yes, ….and never give up!

I would just like to let you know that both my daughters Eloise (Y5) and Cerys (Y1) really enjoyed your visit.
Eloise has always been an avid reader, but Cerys suddenly discovered it last Easter and hasn’t stopped since!
You visit inspired them to submit stories to the Chirs Evans story competition. Eloise had hers in on the second day, but we only have tonight to get Cerys’ entry typed up! Fingers crossed I remember or there’ll be trouble!
