Today I’ve been at the children’s book festival – the great malarkey – in Hull which is on the East Coast of England. I’m the illustrator in Residence all week and will be filling my sketchbook up – have a look to see what I did today.
How to draw an evil lizard
This is an illustration of an Evil Lizard drawn with pen and ink and a single colour grey watercolour wash to add tone. A great style for black and white illustrated books.

This video is inspired by my Scaredy Cats story video – The Killer Catflap – you can see the video here
More details about the Scaredy Cats book can be found here
and you can get the books from Amazon here in the UK
and here in the US

After last week’s Scaredy Cats story video – The Killer Catflap – I thought I’d draw an evil cockroach this week. see the video here
It’s different to the way I drew the roaches in the book and video, mainly because I’ve been a bit more attentive to the true shape and design of a cockroach. Not too attentive though! This is really about characterisation – turning an animal or inanimate object into a humanised character
