Patron Of Reading at Sully Primary, S.Wales

SullyI had a wonderful day, last Friday, visiting Sully Primary School in South Wales as their new Patron of Reading. It’s both an honour and great fun to have taken up this role.

I’ve been to Sully before, and also met them again at the Welsh Books Council Book Slam in Brecon earlier this year.

Head of Literacy, Laura Sheldon, is a fellow Firefly Books author and a great believer in the power of reading for pleasure.

I spent most of Friday wandering from class to class, escorted by a watchful poDragon-White-book-cover-v1esse of minders, who were the strictest time keepers I have ever been looked after by. It didn’t help that I’d made a wrong turn on the way, in the morning,  and ended up arriving quarter of an hour late. They managed to get me back on schedule by lunchtime!

There were many questions and was shown lots of drawings that had been done from my videos.

After lunch we all sat down and came up with some great ideas for making the most of my position and helping to boost the love of reading for pleasure in school.

I finished the day with a bit of Dragon Storytelling, showing off my very latest book, Dragon White, which is published this week!

After school, I foolishly joined in with a bit of kicking the rugby ball around the playground. I never learn! My knee has been aching ever since! Still I appear to have the grace of a gazelle if this photo is to be believed!

Thanks for a wonderful day, Sully, And hope to see you again soon, live or on Skype!
