Tailless Lizard

Tailless Lizard – Pelopenese – Greece
We are often told how lizards can shed their tails to enable an escape, leaving a bemused hunter with just a wriggling bit of tail in their mouths or beaks. I’ve once or twice found the bits of tail, which have been discarded and not worthy of a meal, but I’ve never seen a lizard that shed it’s tail. I’ve seen slow worms in various stages of growing tails back.

I just came across this photo that I took on holiday in Greece, this summer. He must have very recently got away from what ever it was that nearly got him!
