In this video I show you how I draw and paint a hellebore flower in watercolour.
I have four different varieties of Hellebore in my garden. They are wonderful because they bring colour and interest at the end of winter into the early spring.
One of them is by my studio door, so I enjoy them for the best part of a month each year. Each year I think, “I really must draw and paint them one day!”
Well, the day has come. This is really a wet Monday afternoon exercise in looking, drawing and painting, trying to work out the shapes and the colours as well as the botany. I’d never noticed the nectaries before, an extra ring inside the petals at the base of the Ovary, dedicated to producing nectar to entice any insect out and about at this time of year to come in, feed and pollinate the flower.
