Poetry wins Drawing Prize – not a joke

So many people say to me they can’t draw or they would love to be able to draw.

Well now they can – easily. Just record a poem – it’s as easy as that! Take a listen…

That recording won the prestigious Jerwood Drawing Prize.

I’m not surprised. The art world is never satisfied with drawing, it always wants more – It wants ART

ART

Alison Carlier is obviously interested in words and writing, which is a form of drawing. I like Alison Carlier’s drawings but her piece Adjectives, lines and marks, a one minute and 15 second audio work, is a poem. I gather it’s a found text that she didn’t even write herself.

There is no way this drawing.

NO! NO! NO WAY!

Before judges enter an art prize judging room, they should be made to read The Emperor’s New Clothes. I expect they are feeling a bit silly today.

Well done Alison, for pulling the wool over the judges eyes. Enjoy the prize. I hope you will go on an exotic trip somewhere and do some of those fabulous drawings of yours!

Anyway, now anyone can draw real easy. Just speak into your phone and make a recording. That’s all there is to it.

The ART world has spoken.
