  • We went to see the snowdrops at the sculpture garden in Tintern. I bought a couple of plants and decided to draw them while talking about attention spans. Thanks to the internet, TV and streaming etc we now have the attention spans of gnats.

Get the mug of the video!

The chances of you actually watching this video all the way to the very end are pretty slim, and yet, you chose to watch it. If you flip to another video and then another, you are actively turning your brain to mush. Try watching all the way through to the end. You may learn something either from the way I draw or paint in watercolour or from the stream of consciousness rambling voice over.

This isn’t a how to draw a video. It’s a video encouraging you to think about taking some time out, next time you want to draw something.

Hide your phone, stop thinking about instagram and try to put all your focus into the drawing. I imagine you will find that really difficult, because all those pings, ringing out for your attention have taught you to swipe and move on.

The simple way to draw better? Draw… Observe… don’t tweet or instagram or whatsapp or even think about it. Focus on the one job. Understand the thing you are drawing and draw it… until you have finished. And if you are not happy with it, draw it again, with the added knowledge you gained the first time round! Welcome back to reality!

Everything went wrong, technically, with this video. The microphone had been accidentally muted , so I did a voiceover instead – even then Mrs Rayner interrupted over Alexa!

I’ve since made a mug design from the artwork. You can support my Youtube channel and keep me making videos by purchasing one from Spring.com

  • This is one of two books that were the very first that I was commissioned to write – originally for Blackie Books and Puffin paperback.

Victoria may be a very old bus but she has always managed the journey to market every Wednesday. Then one day, as she is climbing the last hill into town, the most terrible thing happens… A delightful story for children set in the countryside with a beautiful of bus and bunch of characters on their way to the Wednesday market.
